Sibley Co. Stock Car Shootout

Dan Mackenthun wins his biggest career payday at the Sibley County Fair Stock Car Shootout at the Arlington Raceway. The event paid $5,000 to win plus he received an extra $1,725.00 for leading 23 laps of the 30 lap feature and an extra $100 for his heat race win, this also secures him a position in the B&B Racing Chassis Allstar race Thirty six stock cars signed in all looking for the top prize and extra bonus awards for a total of a $30,000 purse. The event was sponsored by Geib Well & Water and presented by Justice Brothers. Heat races were furious as the drivers were paid $100 to win the race, the My Race Pass fastest heat race time extra $100 was given to Josh Larsen. The first heat was probably the funnest to watch as there was a battle between Jake Bruns and Andrea McCain, Bruns led from the start and with two laps to go Kaden Woodie and Andrea McCain switched spots with Bruns still leading then coming out of turn 4 McCain dove down and by mere feet took the win at the checkered flag with Woodie taking 2nd and Bruns following in 3rd for an exciting finish. Other heat race winners were Dan Menk, Dan Mackenthun, Matt Looft and AJ Zimmerman securing them all a spot in the redraw. Jake McBirnie won the pistol shootout in the Justice Brothers Redraw as he shot and won the #1 draw card putting him on the pole. He also pulled a position draw giving Andrea McCain $500 before the race even began.
With multiple grooves changing throughout the night, Jake McBirnie led the first 7 laps of the race. Mackenthun started 5th and by the first lap was in 2nd place hot on McBirnie’s tail. On the 7th lap, a yellow came out for a body part from a car on the track. That gave Mackenthun the perfect opportunity to get around McBirnie. Twelve laps later a yellow was thrown when Woodie spun in turn #3 collecting the car of Justin Luinenburg taking him out of the race and earning the hard luck award. The rest of the race was pretty flawless with Mackenthun leading, McBirnie trying to pass him lap by lap while John Oliver Jr and Kelly Shyrock moved through the field battling for positions. Shyrock won the hardcharger and Oliver picked up an extra $200 for longest tow. McBirnie won an extra $525 for leading laps as well as his $2000 for 2nd place.
Other bonus award random $500 draws were given to AJ Zimmerman, Curt Lund, Justin Luinenburg and Dave Moriarty. Jed Trebelhorn won the last finishing car $100 bonus. Luke Sathoff led the entire 12 laps of the B feature from the 2nd row start putting him in the A feature along with Luinenburg, Jed Trebelhorn and Jed Trebelhorn. Five non qualifiers were each awarded and extra $50.00.
Neisen & Son’s Construction sponsored a stock car king of the hill race with the top 10 drivers that finished in the A feature inverting to start this race. Matt Looft picked up $500 for winning this.
The Arlington State Bank IMCA Sport Modified feature was led the entire 25 lap distance by Broddy Enter, luck was with him as he drew the top spot and stayed out front to win the $800 feature picking up his biggest payday as well. He drove around lapped traffic giving him distance from 2nd place runner Eric Larson. A yellow flag came out when the 11 of Cole Hesse took a detour and drove into the withholding pond between corners one and two. He was ok but made quite a splash. Once the race restarted, Enter was able to gain distance on the backstretch as Eric Bassett was moving forward to get by Larson, he wasn’t able to and in the end had to settle for 3rd place ahead of Jeff Carter. Scott Koep won the $100 Hardcharger as he moved up 9 spots in the race. Mat Hollerich won the $150 pit draw, Cole Hesse won a $250 random draw and Brandon Karnick won a $125 random draw. Alex Barnes won the last place finisher extra $100.
There were three different leaders in the Jack Pines Resort IMCA Hobby feature with Chad Volk starting on the pole and taking off with Blake Luinenburg behind him. Half way through the race Taylor Manderfield stopped on the top of turn #4 with a flat tire causing a yellow to be thrown and putting Manderfield in the pit for the night. The cars relined with Luinenburg on the point but by the 2nd turn, Cory Probst who had started 12th took over the lead and went onto win. He also won the hardcharger award and the last place draw number picking up an extra $200 bonus. Last place finisher Jonathan Schroeder received a $100 bonus. Last place heat draw bonus was given to Mac Tollefson for $100. Dan Scharpe won the random $250 draw and Moriah Trebelhorn won the $150 pit draw.
