15-Year-Old Dawson Hawksby Becomes Youngest Winner in Oswego Speedway History with First Career 350 Supermodified Victory
OSWEGO, NY (July 19, 2025) - The Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodified main event on Children’s Museum of Oswego, Oswego County Habitat for Humanity and Chase Enterprises Night delivered one of the most exciting moments of the season as 15-year-old Dawson Hawksby powered to his first career victory in his rookie season at the Steel Palace.
It was the teenager on the front row for the 25-lap feature with Hawksby starting from the pole alongside Barry Kingsley. Hawksby grabbed the lead early while veteran Dave Cliff quickly moved from third to second, and Kingsley settled into third. Behind them, the racing was intense with Robbie Wirth and Jim Storace battling side by side for fourth, while Nick Barzee and Kyle Perry waged their own side-by-side battle for fifth.
The first caution flew on lap 3 when Noah Ratcliff spun and made slight contact with the inside hub rail, ending his night early. On the ensuing restart, Hawksby and Cliff led the field, followed by Kingsley, Wirth, Barzee, Storace, Perry, and Dawson’s brother Talen Hawksby in eighth.
Hawksby paced the field over Cliff on the restart, but the action quickly heated up behind them. Storace made a daring outside move to pass Barzee and Kingsley to get to fourth, then dove underneath Wirth in turn one, where the two made contact, stacking up the field. That opened the high lane for Talen Hawksby, who made an incredible charge from eighth to third in one corner, sweeping around Perry, Kingsley, Barzee, Storace, and Wirth.
Trouble struck in turn three though as Talen and Wirth made contact, sending Wirth spinning. Barzee and Storace spun to avoid, with Wirth done for the night and Storace pitting with damage. Talen was placed back to sixth for the contact, resetting the top five to Dawson Hawksby, Cliff, Kingsley, Barzee, and Perry.
Perry was on the move after the restart, using the high side to get around both Barzee and Kingsley to move into third. Out front, Hawksby and Cliff broke away from the field with Cliff staying close but unable to mount a challenge for the lead.
At halfway, the top five ran Dawson Hawksby, Cliff, Perry, Barzee, and Talen Hawksby. In the closing laps, Barzee pressured Perry for third, but it was all Dawson Hawksby up front as he navigated lapped traffic and pulled away from Cliff to secure his first career 350 Super win.
Hawksby’s triumph makes him the youngest winner in Oswego Speedway history among all divisions at just 15 years, 11 months, and 7 days old (born August 13, 2009). The previous youngest 350 Supermodified winner was Chase Locke at 16 years and 8 months. The youngest Pathfinder Bank SBS winner is Anthony Losurdo at 16 years and 6 months, while the youngest Novelis Supermodified winner is Tyler Thompson at 17 years and 10 months.
Together with his brother Talen, they become the first brothers to win in the 350 Super division.
“It feels good,” Hawksby smiled in victory lane. “The car was really hooked up in the feature. We were on rails and could really get it down to the hub rail a lot better than the heat race and I can’t thank anyone more than my Dad Joe Hawksby Jr here - he set up the car and he had it on rails tonight. I have to thank my grandfather Joe Hawksby Sr of course and then for my sponsors - Raby’s, Top Quality Construction and Mike Barbera, and Shark Scapes.”
Hawksby’s win comes in just his fifth start of the season, continuing a historic youth movement in the Oswego County Tourism 350 Supers.
Oswego Speedway is off next Saturday, July 26 for Harborfest and the ISMA/MSS Sandusky Speedway Hy-Miler Nationals. Racing returns to action on Saturday, August 2 with Novelis Supermodified and GTR Super Stock twins plus the Oswego County Tourism 350 Supermodifieds.
