Firecracker 40 Falls to Edkin

YORK HAVEN, Pa.: You don’t get to be the leading feature winner in a division and not excel in big races. Well, at least if you are Super Sportsman Kenny Edkin.

The Marysville, Pa., driver entered the season with 38 victories in the division at BAPS Motor Speedway. But as good as Edkin has been over the years, he seems to save his best for the big events.

The Dellinger’s Auto Body Firecracker 40 fits the bill. Edkin was the class of the field on his way to the front, passing early-leader Troy Rhome on his way to a healthy score in the Super Sportsman class.

But win No. 39 wasn’t easy. Rhome started on the pole and set a pretty good pace in leading the first 31 laps of the main event. Edkin, meanwhile, took his time making his way to the front.

Edkin started fifth and ran fourth through the first 16 laps. After taking third, he chased down Scott Dellinger for the runner-up spot by the completion of the 24th circuit and set his sights on the leader.

The green-flag laps were clicking off, and Edkin tracked down Rhome. He made the winning pass on Lap 31 and withstood a late challenge from Dellinger to claim the prestigious victory by 1.275 seconds at the stripe.

Dellinger settled for second, with eighth-place starter Jay Fannasy completing the podium. Rhome fell to fourth, with Timmie Barrick completing the top five.

In 602 Crate Modified competition, Adam White started eighth on the grid and grabbed the lead from Michael White to score the win.

Michael White started on the pole and led the first 13 circuits. Adam White was up to second on Lap 8 and wrestled the lead away on a restart. From there, he went on to take the win in the 25-Lap affair by 1.422 seconds.

Sammy Rial claimed top honors in Superior Holmes Extreme Stock action. He started fourth on the grid and took the lead on Lap 6 to take the win by a hefty 3.574 seconds at the stripe.

Alex Updegraff got up to second in the final rundown. Patrick McClane, Doug Hoffman, and Blake Decker completed the top five.
