Inaugural $10,000-to-Win Rick Ferkel Classic Capping All Star Ohio Sprint Speedweek on June 23

Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (June 13, 2018) – Ohio sprint car racing veteran Rick Ferkel will be honored in a big way during the Ohio Sprint Speedweek finale.

Shane Helms is working with Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe, Ohio, to promote the inaugural Rick Ferkel Classic on Saturday, June 23. The event, which is the ninth-and-final round of the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions Speedweek, pays $10,000 to win.

“It really humbles you,” Ferkel said. “During your racing career you just race. You don’t think about what your legacy is or how people feel like you’ve done. It’s humbling when someone wants to do something for you.”

Ferkel said he had quite a bit of success at Atomic Speedway before he ventured on the road in the late 1970s.

“We didn’t stick around home too long,” he said. “We went to Atomic pretty early in our career. They were paying a little more money at that time. Something called me to go other places and race other places (than our home track), which is what we did in our career until Ted Johnson came up with the World of Outlaws. We spent a lot of time at Atomic. We were pretty fortunate there with a pretty good career. It’s neat that it will be at Atomic.”

Helms is coming off the highly successful Bob Hampshire Classic last month and he is looking forward to continue honoring Ohio greats by ushering in the Rick Ferkel Classic.

“Not only did Rick have a lot of success in Ohio, he put together a successful career on the road racing across the country,” Helms said. “Rick still does a lot for the sport so we’re proud to be able to put together a race in his honor.”

Late models and compacts will also be part of the Rick Ferkel Classic program.

General admission tickets are $22 for adults and $20 for seniors and veterans. Children 12-years-old and younger get in free. Pit passes are $35 for adults and $20 for children ages 6-years-old to 12-years-old.

All gates open at 2 p.m. Drivers will sign autographs during a special session beginning at 4:30 p.m. prior to the drivers meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Additionally, Ferkel and Helms will take part in a Facebook live video on the Atomic Speedway page this Thursday around 7:30 p.m. They will discuss the event as well as the current status of the sport and will field questions from fans.
