Inside Line Promotions – CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (July 1, 2018) – A huge sigh of relief was exhaled from the Swindell Speed Lab sponsored team of Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston on Saturday evening when the duo captured their first feature triumph of the season.

Bayston set quick time during qualifying, won the dash and led all 35 laps of the $10,054-to-win Dean Knittel Memorial at Atomic Speedway.

“It was definitely a huge sigh of relief,” he said. “Being able to stay up front all night and have a solid night felt good. That was a confidence booster.”

Bayston’s qualifying time of 11.530 seconds netted a $354 bonus. The top qualifiers skipped a heat race and went straight into a dash, which Bayston won after starting on the outside of the front row to again garner another $354 bonus.

The earned the pole position for the A Main.

“It got pretty dicey there in traffic,” he said. “We’d catch traffic in about four laps (after restarts) so we were almost always in traffic. On the last corner I slipped up on entry. I went in running the top and got a tick above the rubber. I had to get it a little sideways and check up. (Cole Duncan) threw it in there and thankfully left me a lane. We were basically wheel to wheel in the center of turns three and four. I was able to square up the top better and bring it home.”

The victory was the third career for Swindell and Bayston at the third different track.

The weekend began on Friday at Plymouth Speedway in Plymouth, Ind., where Bayston qualified third quickest during the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions race. He then placed fourth in a heat race before maneuvering from eighth to sixth place in the dash.

Bayston quickly advanced into the top five during the A Main before he brought out a caution because of a fuel leak. The team fixed the problem in the work area and Bayston rallied from the back to a 13th-place result.

“Track position was really big,” he said. “I was up to fifth when unfortunately I had to go to the tail. I felt like we were pretty good, but I wasn’t able to make up much ground once we got back out there.

“To be able to rebound at Atomic and be fast out of the gate to get our first win of the year, it was a big sigh of relief,” he said.

The Swindell Speed Lab backed team will tackle a majority of this week’s Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek. NASCAR driver Christopher Bell will pilot the car on Sunday at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run, Pa.; Monday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa.; and Tuesday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa.

Bayston will climb behind the wheel on Wednesday at Port Royal Speedway in Port Royal, Pa.; Thursday at Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Md.; and Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
