Cameron Rowe Runs Flawless Race to Claim Second Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS Title
OSWEGO, NY (August 10, 2025) - The 33rd running of the Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS delivered fantastic action through the field as an outstanding count of 25 SBS battled for the big $1,500 payday. Points leader Drew Pascuzzi and veteran Cameron Rowe led the field to green, and it was Rowe who wasted no time taking control.
From the drop of the green flag, Rowe charged to the high line and grabbed the lead by the completion of lap 1. Pascuzzi, meanwhile, got way sideways off turn 2 and dropped out of the top 10 early. The opening running order settled with Rowe out front, followed by Brad Haynes, DJ Shuman (who moved up from sixth to third), Alex Hoag in fourth, and Noah Ratcliff rounding out the top five.
The race’s first caution came before lap 2 was complete when Greg O’Connor lost control in turn 3. This yellow flag gave Pascuzzi a lucky break as the field was frozen before lap 2 ended, placing him back in second behind Rowe for the restart.
Rowe continued to lead the restart, with Haynes filling the gap under Pascuzzi for the runner-up spot, and Hoag now diving underneath Shuman for fourth by the end of lap 2. A fierce battle unfolded behind the leaders as Hoag next pressured Pascuzzi for the final podium spot.
Ratcliff lost a few positions on the restart, but then made a strong move going into turn 1, trying to get a wheel underneath Shuman. However, Shuman was able to shut the door and held his position, riding a close fifth behind Pascuzzi and Hoag. Ratcliff, now running sixth, wasn’t alone - as Mike Bruce, in the Gunther No. 22, was making an early charge from 12th to 7th, wheeling his car along the outside groove of the Speedway.
By lap 9, Shaun Gosselin, last year’s Classic champion back driving the No. 26 for GO Racing, was picking off cars, moving behind Bruce for seventh. Chaos struck shortly after though when Matt Magner and Andy Jodway tangled in turn 3. Jodway spun but avoided further damage, while the incident also collected Bryan Haynes, Robbie Wirth, Tony DeStevens, and Carter Gates - all of whom were forced out after heavy contact, including Gates ending up atop DeStevens’ car.
This crash called for another double-file restart, with Rowe maintaining the lead, followed by Haynes, Pascuzzi, Hoag, and Shuman. Hoag got a stellar restart, clearing Pascuzzi and moving inside Haynes for second, who was not able to make the high side work for the lead. Ratcliff also sailed the outside around both Shuman and his teammate Pascuzzi, advancing to fourth.
The field’s top five now ran nose-to-tail as Rowe led the way over Hoag, Haynes, Ratcliff, and Pascuzzi. Meanwhile, Bruce climbed to sixth, and Shuman dropped to seventh.
Returning Jesse Bearup, always a strong contender, now held steady in eighth after starting in tenth, but then Gosselin’s return to racing ended in dramatic fashion as the No. 26 spun in a shower of sparks on the backstretch, triggering a collision involving Tessa Crawford, who made heavy contact with the spinning Gosselin. Both drivers were done for the night.
After another restart, with 10 laps now complete, the running order stood as Rowe, Hoag, Haynes, Ratcliff, Bruce and Bearup who were able to clear Pascuzzi for fifth and sixth, Shuman, Jodway, and Magner. But, drama struck again as Magner and Jodway made contact a second time coming out of turn 2, sending Jodway spinning hard into the outside steel. Thankfully, he was okay, but the returning veteran - a two-time Mr. SBS champion in1995 and 1997 - was forced to retire for the night in the Hilton Racing No. 1 car.
The ensuing restart lined up with Rowe still leading the way, followed by Hoag, Haynes, Ratcliff, Bruce, Bearup, Pascuzzi, and Shuman now rounding out the top eight
On this particular restart, Bruce tried for fourth but just barely clipped Ratcliff in the process, sending him sideways. Ratcliff made an incredible save, but lost several positions, allowing Bearup, Bruce, and Shuman to shuffle by in that order.
Up front, Hoag continued to pressure Rowe hard on the outside and briefly took the lead on lap 11 by inches, but Rowe reclaimed the spot quickly, holding strong on the inside as the two put on a clean, exciting battle for the rights to the Mr. SBS title.
Just past halfway, the Vashaw’s Collision caution flag struck again as Bearup, who had been running fourth after the restart melee, attempted a move underneath Haynes for third. The two made contact, sending Haynes spinning hard into the foam with heavy damage in turn 3, ending both their nights, with Bearup also sustaining damage from the tangle. This yellow flag also saw Bruce retire with mechanical issues, re-stacking the race for the lead even further.
When the green flag flew again, the new top five was Rowe, Hoag, Shuman, Ratcliff, and Pascuzzi. The final stages saw the intense duel continue between Rowe and defending Mr. SBS champion Hoag, with Ratcliff back up to a podium spot, and Shuman close behind in fourth.
Rowe was absolutely flawless in holding off every challenge and cruised to victory for his second Mr. SBS title, first won in 2023. The big win also marked the veteran Rowe’s seventh career victory at Oswego Speedway.
Hoag finished a strong second, with Ratcliff third, Shuman fourth, and Pascuzzi rounding out the top five. Greg O’Connor rebounded to sixth, Matt Matteson drove from the tail to seventh, with CJ Crawford and Tony Pisa completing the top 10.
In victory lane, Rowe took a moment to share his thoughts on the race and thank those who helped make the victory possible:
“This was awesome. The car was really good. (Alex) Hoag was right there the whole time, and a couple others were right behind too. We had a lot of fast cars today. Starting up front definitely helped, but Hoag had that thing running really good on the outside. At one point, I thought we both might wreck, we drove hard through the corners. Hopefully, I didn’t run him too hard up near the wall - I apologize if I did, but that was fun. I absolutely want to thank all my sponsors; Lakeside Restaurant, Woodchuck Saloon, RAD Race Gear, and Coopers Custom Canvas. Mark Cooper and I built two cars over the winter, and we’ve been working on this one too. It’s been a great way to start our first year together. His son Tyler has a car, and my son Cam has a car, so it’s been fun. Also, big thanks to my entire crew -they put up with a lot from me. I’m an old grumpy dude now, but they do an awesome job. And shoutout to my brothers in Texas and Tommy who is here - they’re all watching on Flo. Thanks, everyone.”
Believe it or not, Oswego Speedway’s regular season wraps up this Saturday, August 16, as Oswego County Tourism presents Championship Night for the Novelis Supermodifieds, Pathfinder Bank SBS, and 350 Supermodifieds. Fireworks will cap off the evening.
